A new quarter-brick converter has been designed to meet high-efficiency power demands in a small package. The Apollo 5, an 80A quarter-brick, operates without de-rating at operating conditions of 300 LFM airflow at 50°C. An integrated pre-bias feature enables monotonic startup for synchronizing multiple converters to multiple output voltages during power-up. Measuring 1.45" x 2.28", the supply supports the double-p pin-out standard with output voltages at 1.8V, 1.5V or 1.2V and what is claimed as an industry-leading current density of 55A per cubic inch. Designed to power next-generation switches, routers, telecom, automatic test equipment, wireless loop, and radio frequency transmission devices, the supply includes remote on/off, remote sensing, output-voltage adjust pin, over-temperature protection, output over-current and over-voltage protection, and input under- voltage protection. Additional features include self-contained bias circuitry to eliminate race conditions, no minimum load requirements, constant frequency operation for predictable EMI characteristics, tightly regulated outputs, low ripple and noise, and auto restart after fault shutdown. Pricing is $79 each/1,000. CHEROKEE INTERNATIONAL, Tustin, CA. (714) 508-2071.
