UPS Exploits 10-Year, High-Temp Batteries

Claiming to last four years at +50°C and longer at +25° C, the batteries in the SSG Series uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) are rated for 10 years of expected life in a temperature-controlled environment up to +25°C. According to the company, the SSG components are the only UPS to carry a +55°C UL listing. Available in models from 1.5 to 3 kVA and in both 120 Vac and 230 Vac versions, the SSG Series is capable of withstanding elevated temperatures up to +55ºC for prolonged periods of time. The long-life batteries are rated to last seven years at +40°C and four years at +50°C, several times longer than the standard battery that is rated to last less than two years at +40°C and less than a year at +50°C. Other features of the series include a universal battery pack, which fits all SSG 1.5 to 3 kVA models and is truly hot-swappable. The slide-out battery packs are easily replaced through the UPS front panel without having to remove the UPS from the equipment rack. For unattended OS shutdown and monitoring, UPSilon shutdown and management software supports Windows platforms, Novell NetWare 5 and 6, Linux, and FreeBSD. Pricing for the SSG Series starts at $1,999 for the 1.5 kVA model (SSG1.5KRM-1). FALCON ELECTRIC INC., Irwindale, CA. (800) 842-6940.
