180-W AC-DC Power Supply Shrinks By 46%

Oct. 22, 2013
XP Power squeezed a 180-W ac-dc power supply into a 2- by 4-in. (50.8 by 101.6 mm) footprint, 46% smaller than the standard 3 by 5 in. It also features 1-in.-high (25.4-mm) profile. The ECP180 series’ operating temperature ranges from -20 to +70°C, with no derating until +50°C.

The IT and medically approved open-frame power supplies meet UL/IEC/EN 60950-1 and the latest 3rd-edition medical safety standards ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1 and IEC/EN60601-1. Average active mode efficiency is 93%; no-load power consumption measures less than 0.5 W. Thus, the ECP180 produces less heat and helps end-system designers meet current “green” energy-efficiency standards. Its design also enables a convection-cooled rating of 120 W. Full 180-W output power needs only 10 CFM of forced airflow.

The ECP180 series, which features power factor correction and a universal wide input range of 85 to 264 V ac, comes in six models with nominal outputs of +12, +15, + 24, +28, +36 or +48 V dc. A secondary 12-V dc/0.5-A fan output is standard across the range.
