With the goals of design simplification, space savings, and cost reductions, the MAX15022 quad-output dc/dc converter integrates dual synchronous regulators at 4A and 2A plus two linear controllers. The device's integrated switches operate at frequencies from 500 kHz to 4 MHz and the dual converters operate 180 degrees out of phase, thereby reducing input ripple current and allowing the use of smaller, less expensive input capacitors. With a 20-mA sink capability, the linear controllers can drive two external PNP transistors to provide two additional power rails that deliver over 1A of output current. Additionally, the converter can externally compensate the switching regulator as well as adjust the output voltage from 0.6V to the input voltage. It will also allow monotonic startup into a pre-biased output. Other features include independent enable inputs with analog thresholds, digital soft-start/soft-stop, cycle-by-cycle lossless current sensing, hiccup-mode operation, and thermal protection. Available in a 28-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm TQFN package, prices start at $3.07 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
