Heeding demands for analog integration in the graphics card, computing, and mass storage markets, the company's latest series of single- and dual-power regulator chips provide power management for DDR applications. The MC34712/3/6/7 regulators power data-dense DDR1/2/3 memory systems and handle dc/dc conversion in a wide range of power conversion applications. Operating as synchronous buck switching converters, the devices promise to increase power-management efficiency by as much as 93% in most DDR applications. They provide programmable high-current switching frequencies up to 1 MHz, enabling the use of smaller inductors and capacitors. Depending on the device, features include an input-voltage range from 3V to 6V, 1 MHz synchronous single and dual switching regulators, programmable switching frequency from 200 kHz to 1 MHz, 5A sourcing, 3A sink/source, reference-in pin for tracking voltage output, an output voltage accuracy of ±2%, and an adjustable output from 0.7V to 1.35V. Prices range from $1 to $1.37 each/10,000. FREESCALE SEMICONDUCTOR INC., Austin, TX. (800) 521-6274.
