Described as the most advanced and flexible battery authentication ICs for cell phones, the ISL9206 and ISL9206A enlist the company’s FlexiHash+ technology, which employs two sets of 32-bit secrets for generating authentication code. The technology provides security using a basic challenge/response scheme based on 32-bit challenge and eight-bit response codes. The devices also feature 16x8 one-time programmable ROM, allowing them to store a total of three sets of 32-bit secrets. Programmable ROM adds the ability to store up to 48 bits of ID code and/or pack information. Shared features include an operating voltage range from 2.6V to 4.8V, attainable from a one-cell li-ion/li-polymer or a three-cell NiMH battery pack or the XSD bus when the bus pull-up voltage is 3.3V or higher. Both devices integrate a voltage regulation circuit, POR, non-crystal oscillator, and a clone prevention feature. Otherwise similar, the ISL9206 adds multi-pass authentication to maximize security. Available in five-lead SOT-23 and eight-lead TDFN packages, prices for the ISL9206 and ISL9206A are $1.40 and $1.73 each/1,000, respectively. INTERSIL CORP., Milpitas, CA. (888) 352-6832.
