Meeting the powered device requirements of IEEE802.3af-compliant power-over-Ethernet systems, the MAX5940A and MAX5940B power device interface controllers are designed to provide a valid 25 k? signature discovery and classification signature. They employ programmable inrush current-limit control, allowing the devices to consume more power than the maximum 13W allocated by the IEEE802.3af standard. Both controllers draw less than 10 µA of offset current and an internal 0.6? N-channel MOSFET provides isolation during detection, inrush current control, and efficient power mode operation. MAX5940A comes with a default under-voltage lockout while MAX5940B has an adjustable under-voltage lockout. In an 8-pin SO package, prices start at $0.93 for MAX5940A and $1.04 for MAX5940B each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
