The 48V family of second-generation dc-to-dc converters incorporate enhancements in converter control, switching and magnetics that are said to result in improved performance, higher reliability and lower cost. Silicon integration of both control and switching elements leads to high power density, which in turn produces a smaller footprint for the power delivered. Advancements in magnetics, in the form of proprietary plated-cavity cores that couple widely separated primary and secondary windings, reduce parasitics and decrease noise. The family comprises three groups of eight modules, and each group provides dc outputs of 2V, 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V, 24V, 28V and 48V. The MaxiMOD group runs from 200W to 500W, the MiniMOD group from 100W to 250W, and the MicroMOD from 50W to 150W.
