Hot-Swap Controllers Allow Power Supply Sequencing

For use in systems powered by 1V to 13.2V supplies, the MAX5918 and MAX5919 low-voltage, dual hot-swap controllers allow safe insertion and removal of circuit line cards with multiple supplies from a live backplane. Designed to limit inrush current to the load, the controllers integrate on-chip the company's Variable Speed/BiLevel circuit-breaker response feature that protects against overcurrent conditions and prevents trips caused by noise and load transients. Both devices provide independent control of two separate supplies and can be configured for power supply sequencing by programming delays on the on/off inputs. Other features include undervoltage lockout, output undervoltage and overvoltage monitoring or protection, adjustable circuit-breaker threshold, and startup period.
