Attempting to avoid system damage, the AS1353 and AS1356 low-dropout (LDO) regulators provide reversed battery or supply voltage protection. The AS1353 specifies a noise figure of 30 µVRMS between 10 Hz and 100 kHz, allowing the use of a small and less expensive 1-µF ceramic output capacitor. The device also features a power-supply rejection ratio of 57 dB at 100 kHz and a power-good signal that indicates when the output voltage is within a tolerance of 5%. Additionally, an enable pin permits a turn-on time of 150 µs. Both devices feature a voltage drop of 60 mV at 150 mA, going down to 20 mV at 50 mA, and an output current of 150 mA. Input-voltage range is from 2.5V to 5.5V. AUSTRIAMICROSYSTEMS USA INC., Raleigh, NC. (919) 676-5292.
