Engineered for quick and easy integration into PLLs, the new SMV5300L voltage controlled oscillator is targeted at demanding wireless LAN applications. It generates frequencies between 5,220 and 5,420 MHz within a control voltage range of 0.5 to 4.5 Vdc, with error voltage taken directly from the IC’s charge pump circuitry. Although covering a broad bandwidth, the device is able to achieve a spectral purity of -81 dBc/Hz, typical, at 10 kHz from the carrier. The device suppresses the second harmonic to -30 dBc and draws just 26 mA of current from a 5 Vdc supply while providing 3±3 dBm of output power into 50W load. A surface-mount device, the SMV5300L measures 0.3" x 0.3" x 0.08" and is specified to operate over the extended commercial temperature range of -30°C to +75°C. Pricing is $15.95 each.
