Getting high output power and excellent linearity in a millimeter-wave amplifier is no easy trick. But Avago has done it with its AMMC/P-6333 (see the figure). This high-performance driver amplifier offers high gain and power with excellent input and output return losses. It also targets the need for broadband and eliminates the need for a negative voltage. Primary applications include wireless communication infrastructure, point-to-point radios, very small aperture terminals (VSATs), and fiber to the home (FTTH).

The AMMC/P-6333 millimeter-wave monolithic IC (MMIC) is made using Avago’s unique 0.25-µm enhancement mode pHEMT technology. It works over the 18- to 33-GHz band and delivers a high gain of 20 dB and a P1dB of 23 dBm. The third-order intercept point is 30 dBm. The input and output matching networks are for 50 O. The device is available in a 5- by 5-mm surface-mount package or as a bare die. It operates from a single 5-V supply with a current drain of 220 mA.

Pricing for the AMMC-6333 die begins at $13.20 in 100- to 999-unit quantities. The AMMP-6333 surface-mount device pricing begins at $19.80 for the same quantities. The parts are available now through distributors.
