Mini DC-DC Converters Boast High Efficiency, Load Regulation

April 9, 2007
BEAR Power Supplies says its new BPS Series of high-voltage dc-dc converters deliver up to five times greater efficiency and 10 times tighter load regulation than similar competitive products.

The BPS Series of high-voltage dc-dc converters feature up to five times better efficiency and 10 times better load regulation than similar products on the market, according to BEAR Power Supplies. The high-reliability, 1.5-W converters have a single input voltage (configurable from 3 to 12 V dc) and a single output voltage (configurable from 50 to 220 V dc). Typical efficiency is 90%, and load regulation is 3% from no load to full load. I/O isolation is 100 MΩ minimum at 1000 V dc.

The BPS Series converters operate from −55° to 85° with no heatsink or electrical derating required. The encapsulated package is only 0.5 by 0.5 by 0.4 in. and weighs just 4 g. Both through-hole and surface-mount versions are available. The modules are well-suited for powering PIN diodes and APDs in applications such as rf transceivers, programmable filters, and industrial and scientific instruments. The BPS dc-dc converters are priced from $65 in volume. A datasheet and drawings are available at www.bearpwr.com/products_DC.shtml.
