MAX5971A single-port, power-sourcing equipment (PSE) controller for IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant, high-power power-over-Ethernet (PoE) applications integrates a 0.5? power MOSFET and sense resistor while delivering up to 40W per port.

Saving space and costs, the MAX5971A single-port, power-sourcing equipment (PSE) controller for IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant, high-power power-over-Ethernet (PoE) applications integrates a 0.5? power MOSFET and sense resistor while delivering up to 40W per port. The device operates from 32V to 60V and provides IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant PD discovery, classification, and dc/ac load-disconnect detection. It is also capable of detecting legacy (non-compliant) PDs that use high capacitance as the discovery signature. Available in a 28-pin TQFN package, prices start at $2.52 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
