The second-generation SupIRBuck integrated POL voltage regulators feature the company’s latest control IC, MOSFET, and package integration technologies to deliver 4A, 8A, and 12A output currents with a higher efficiency over the entire load range. Though specifying a 12V input, high efficiencies are also possible in applications with 9.6V, 5V, or 3.3V inputs. The devices employ a switching frequency up to 1.5 MHz to allow the use of smaller inductors and fewer output capacitors. With a common 5 mm x 6 mm footprint, the Gen2 SupIRBuck family handles 4A, 8A, and 12A of output load and provides an input-voltage range of 1.5V to 16V with a 5V bias and an output-voltage range of 0.7V to 90% Vin. Other features include over-current and over-temperature protection, programmable switching frequency, enable input with input voltage monitoring capability, hiccup current limit, soft-start, power-good output, advanced pre-bias start-up, 1%-accurate 0.7V reference voltages, sequencing, and a dedicated device for DDR memory tracking. Prices range from $1.20 to $1.75 each/10,000. INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER, El Segundo, CA. (310) 252-7726.
