Step-Down Converter Accelerates Application Processors

Aug. 5, 2010
MAX8952 synchronous, dc/dc step-down converter delivers up to 2.5A of output current from a 4 mm2 wafer-level package.

Allowing app processors to run at maximum clock speed, the MAX8952 synchronous, dc/dc step-down converter delivers up to 2.5A of output current from a 4 mm2 wafer-level package. The device operates from an input supply as low as 2.5V and employs an I2C interface that enables dynamic voltage scaling and programming of the output voltage between 770 mV and 1.4V in 10-mV steps. Operating in fixed-frequency PWM or in power-save mode, it can also be synched to an external clock. Prices start at $1.76 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
