Switchers Integrate HEXFETs And Power MOSFETs

By combining a HEXFET and a power MOSFET with a controller IC in a single package, the IRIS series switchers are said to reduce component count by 25% compared to discrete designs. This combinational approach is said to be responsible for reducing stray inductances and lower switching losses at higher PWM frequencies. Six devices in the series, IRIS40xx, offer on resistances ranging from 0.9½ to 3.95½, maximum switching currents from 2.5A to 8A, and maximum output powers from 60W to 180W. Available in five-pin TO-220 and TO-262 packages, prices start at $1.14 each/1,000. INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER CORP., El Segundo, CA. (310) 252-7105.
