Carrying a maximum output current rating of 7A, 5A, 3A and 1.5A, the AS1580/81/82/83 voltage regulators have a dropout voltage as low as 0.4V. The AS1580 family consists of fixed and adjustable voltage regulators in 5-pin packages, with the very low dropout voltage making the devices well-suited for applications such as ATX power supplies to convert 3.3V down to as low as 2.8V. The highly accurate devices provide a tight tolerance of ±1% and line and load regulation as low as 7 mA. The low dropout reduces heat dissipation, enabling use of smaller heat sinks. Current limit is trimmed to ensure specified output current and control short-circuit current. On-chip thermal limiting provides protection from overloads that can be generated from excessive junction temperatures.
