12-Bit DAS Employs 8051 Microcontroller

A complete data-acquisition system (DAS), the MAX7651 is said to be ideal for intelligent sensors, portable data acquisition, and battery-powered applications. The chip features a 4-clock/instruction 8051-compatible microcontroller, which is reportedly 2.5x faster than traditional 8051s, two 8 Kb banks of flash memory, a high-performance 8-channel, 12-bit a/d converter, and dual PWM d/a converters. Operating from a single 4.5V to 5.5V supply, the MAX7651 consumes only 28 mA (max) when running at its maximum clock rate of 12 MHz. Software controllable power-down modes and the ability to use clock frequencies down to 4 MHz let users scale power consumption to performance needs.
