Two system-on-chip (SoC) products from Texas Instruments are aimed at high-performance analog-to-digital converter (ADC) front ends for precision applications such as high-speed data acquisition, automated test equipment, and medical imaging. The 18-bit ADS8284 and 16-bit ADS8254 combine the company’s latest-generation successive approximation register (SAR) ADCs with all the components necessary to optimize design around the data converter. A maximum 1-MHz sample rate with zero latency is maintained through the entire input channel from the multiplexer to the digital output, including the driving amplifier. The fully integrated SoC includes four-channel multiplexer, input operational amplifier, 6 ppm/°C reference, and reference buffer. Also, ultra-low channel drift maximizes reliability and repeatability for critical measurements. The ADS8284 and ADS8254 are available now in a 64-pin QFN package. Pricing in 1000-unit quantities is $20.50 and $16.50, respectively. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (888) 772-3544.
