3V, 10- And 12-Bit ADCs Set Torrid Sampling Pace

Sept. 1, 2001

Two new 3V A/D convertersÑone a dual 10-bit ADC, the other a 12-bit ADCÑare said to set new standards for speed and performance for such devices. At a sampling rate of 105 MSPS, the AD9218 is reportedly 160% faster than other 10-bit duals with similar power dissipation specs. Needing only a 2.7V-3.6V supply and a differential clock to operate, the IC consumes just 265 mW/channel when operating at 105 MSPS. The ADC can operate at 40/65/80/105 MSPS rates and boasts of a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 56 dBc.The AD9235 3V, 12-bit, 20/40/65-MSPS ADC dissipates 90, 165 and 300 mW, respectively, supports IF sampling of up to 100 MHz input frequencies, and touts a SNR of 70.4 dBc and a spurious-free dynamic range of 84 dBc. The 105-MSPS AD9218 in a 48-lead LQFP costs $17.12 each/1,000 and the 65-MSPS AD9235 in a 28-lead TSSOP is priced at $17.02. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Wilmington, MA. (800) 262-5643.
