cPCI Backplanes Come In Multitude Of Styles

Dec. 1, 1999

This large family of CompactPCI backplanes embrace 3U and 6U and 32- and 64-bit versions. The backplane family also includes related bridges, cables, termination modules, power supply backplanes, and cPCI plus H.110 backplanes. The backplanes feature an extra 1/2U for efficient power connection management on the bottom and can be used in hot-swap applications. Each module contains between two and eight slots and operates in standalone mode with a CPU card and power supply. Larger backplanes can be linked together using rear-mounting PCI bridge modules. With this modular cPCI backplane family users can also bridge together 3U, 6U and H.110 Telephony Bus backplanes. The backplanes comply with PCI 2.1, PICMG 2.0, R2.2, PICMG 2.1, R1.0, IEEE 1101.1, 1101.10 and 1101.11.
