Digital Crosspoint Switch Boasts Of 1.5-Gb/s Ports

Jan. 1, 2000

Claimed as the industry’s lowest-power digital crosspoint switch for high-speed data routing applications, such as HDTV and fiber optic network routing, the AD8150 X-stream digital crosspoint switch is said to enable the design of low-cost switching platforms that can make the transition from SDTV to HDTV without wholesale replacement of rack hardware. Reportedly dissipating only 1/30 the power per switch relative to alternative solutions, the switch lowers system cost by eliminating the need for expensive heatsinks and other thermal management components. The chip delivers 1.5 Gb/s per port on power of less than 1.5W.
