Expander Converts Wide SCSI To Narrow SCSI

Oct. 1, 1998

Designed to convert Wide (16-bit) low voltage differential (LVD) to Narrow (8-bit) single-ended SCSI interface, RTLVD-SEP is a Fast40 Ultra2 SCSI Expander that doubles the transfer rate of the Wide Ultra SCSI bus from 40 MB/s to 80 MB/s by using LVD. The expander uses a multimode feature that enables it to operate in LVD or single-ended mode. It auto-senses the type of interface connected to determine whether it is LVD or single-ended. It can be used to extend the single-ended SCSI bus or convert from LVD to single-ended. In single-ended mode, the expander acts as a single-ended extender, with the cable length of the single-ended bus capable of reaching up to 40 feet. Multimode also offers the benefit of extending the life of single-ended legacy devices by letting them operate on the same bus as LVD devices.
