Designed to simplify the control and monitoring of industrial automation networks that operate over extreme temperatures (i.e., -35¡C to 105¡C), the A2SI-E reprogrammable actuator sensor interface (AS-i) bus IC incorporates both standard and optical interfaces and can be used in a network of up to 62 slaves, reportedly twice the number allowed in conventional devices. The chip delivers the functionality required to interface sensors, actuators, controllers and other devices to an AS-i networks, minimizing the need for external components and cable-tree architectures. Features include an integrated EEPROM, four input and four output ports, infrared interface, and power fail protection. Available as a mixed-signal CMOS device in a 28-pin SOIC package, the AS-I bus IC costs $7.10 each in quantities greater than 1,000. AMI SEMICONDUCTOR, San Diego, CA. (858) 385-1808.
