The MAX17083 is a low-voltage, step-down regulator with an internal boost switch and dual n-channel MOSFET power switches integrated into a 24-pin, 4- by 4-mm TQFN package. Besides reducing component count, the 25-mO, low-side power MOSFETs easily handle a load current up to 5 A and ensure high efficiency. The device also eliminates the need for external Schottky diodes and an external boost diode. The step-down regulator produces an adjustable 0.75-V to 2.7-V output voltage from the system’s 3.3-V or 5-V input supply. The device is fully specified over the ?40°C to 85°C extended temperature range. The MAX17803 uses a current-mode, fixed-frequency control scheme to provide an easy-to-implement architecture that does not sacrifice transient response. This architecture also provides peak-current-limit protection and operates in pulse-skipping mode to maintain high efficiency under light-load conditions. Prices start at $2.75 for quantities of 1000. An evaluation kit with recommended external components is available to reduce design time. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
