Modem Links RS-232 Devices To Ethernet

March 1, 2000

The EM1000 is an industrial-grade Ethernet modem that can connect any RS-232-ported device to an Ethernet network. It permits program downloads and data exchanges between PCs, RS-232 devices or other mechanisms such as bar-code readers and serial operator interfaces by means of an Ethernet connection. The modem can act as a "listener" or it can establish links automatically or on demand. Properly formatted messages from controllers may also be transmitted as e-mail over the Internet, eliminating the problem of distance between the communicating devices. Price: $299 each.
