Module Simplifies Embedding Gigabit Ethernet In Systems

May 1, 2002

Available in the small, PC¥MIP form factor, the P9 mezzanine card represents a handy way of embedding Gigabit Ethernet LANs in systems, such as switches and routers. The daughtercard is compatible with 1,000-, 100- and 10-Mbps Ethernet networks and has a direct, 32-bit, 33/66-MHz interface to the PCI bus. The isolated P9 card conforms to IEEE 802.3 standard, is capable of full- and half-duplex communications, and makes the Ethernet connection through an RJ-45 8-wire connector on the cardÕs front panel. At gigabit speeds, all four of the twisted pair are used to achieve the line length specified in 802.3ab. The P9 card is supported by drivers for Windows NT Plug and Play, Linux and VxWorks and has a starting price of $468 each. For more details, contact Ernest Godsey at MEN MICRO INC., Carrollton, TX.
