RJ45 Modular Jacks Eliminate Common Mis-Mating Problem

Feb. 1, 2001

Designed to prevent accidental mis-mating of modular jacks, the eight-circuit RJ45 modular jack has a keep-out feature that prevents it from mating with a six-circuit RJ11 plug. According to the company, this resolves a common mis-mating problem for telecommunications, networking and computer manufacturers. This unique design incorporates a molded lever inside the jack that blocks an inserted RJ11 plug from fully mating with the modular jack. But when an RJ45 plug is inserted into the RJ45 modular jack, the keep-out lever moves out of the way, allowing the plug to fully mate with the jack. The RJ45 modular jack meets Category 5 standards for Fast Ethernet and is available in both shielded and unshielded versions. A top plug latch offers easy access for unmating. Pricing depends on quantity and whether shielded or not. Typical pricing is $460.85 per 1,000 in quantities of 10,000.
