SMT Broadband Couplers Suit Cable-TV Uses

Sept. 1, 1999

A series of 75 ohm broadband RF directional couplers is used incable-TV applications to separate an input signal into two unequal output signals. The stronger signal appears at the main output port with very little degradation, while the highly isolated smaller signal allows network designers to sample the main line signal without affecting it. The series of eight devices (A5807, A5808, A5809, A5816, A5908, A5910, A5912 and A5916) is designed for high-volume cable applications, such as set-top boxes, line amplifiers and headend gear.Designed to accommodate the low-cost manufacture of RF devices with an operating bandwidth of 5 MHz to 900 MHz, the couplers are rugged enough to withstand IR reflow manufacturing techniques and to operate from -40°C to 85°C.
