Touch-Screen ControllerÕs I2C Interface Is Industry First

Jan. 1, 2002

Claimed as the first touch-screen controller with an I2C interface, the TSC2003 is a complete 4-wire resistive circuit with on-chip 12-bit ADC. ItÕs designed specifically for touch-screen devices, such as PDAs, smart phones, Internet appliances, monitors, point-of-sale terminals, and pagers. Said to offer increased functionality, improved performance and lower cost over competing solutions, the device also features an on-chip 2.5V reference, direct monitoring of two batteries, temperature sensing, two auxiliary analog inputs, and touch-pressure measurement. The internal reference will operate down to a 2.7V supply voltage while monitoring the battery voltage from 0.5V to 6V. The reference can be powered down when not in use to conserve power. The TSC2003 supports all three industry standard I2C serial bus and data transmission protocols: standard (up to 100 kbps), fast (up to 400 kbps), and high-speed (up to 3.4 Mbps). In a TSSOP-16 package, the TSC2003 has a starting price of $2.30 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924, ext. 4500.
