USB 2.0 Chip Enables High-Speed Data Connections

July 1, 2002

The new USS2X1 USB 2.0 chip enables 480 Mb/s data connections between PCs and peripherals. In addition, it complies with the USB 2.0 Transceiver Macrocell Interface (UTMI) specification, which provides a standardized interface for USB transceivers to customer-designed ASICs. According to the company, peripheral manufacturers can develop their chip designs to the UTMI standard, insulated from the high-speed analog circuitry technical challenges associated with integrating a USB 2.0 PHY. All that’s needed for a complete working system is to connect the ASIC to the USS2X1 PHY. The PHY can also be used to provide USB 2.0 ports in conjunction with PC chip sets that have an integrated USB 2.0 digital host controller. Price is $2.50 each/100. AGERE SYSTEMS, Allentown, PA.
