Component Products of the Week - Sept. 20, 2021

Sept. 20, 2021
In this roundup, we go through some of the latest component electronics products to hit the market.
Industrial-Grade DRAM Sets a new Standard in Performance

Innodisk recently announced its release of industrial-grade DDR5 DRAM modules, which boasts crucial performance improvements and power savings over its predecessor. The JESD79-5 DDR5 SDRAM offers significant improvements in capacity, speed, voltage, and ECC functions.

The DDR5 specification offers up to four times as much capacity per IC, raising the maximum achievable per die capacity to 64 Gb, bringing the maximum potential capacity for a single DDR5 DIMM to 128GB. It also provides double the transfer speed of DDR4 to 6400 MT/s and drops the voltage requirement from 1.2 V to 1.1 V. The DDR5 specification is suitable for many applications, including deep learning, AI, edge computing, smart medical, supercomputing, and more.

LED Driver Simplifies Rear Lamp Cluster Designs

Diodes Inc.expanded its portfolio of devices supporting automotive exterior illumination by introducing the AL5873Q three-channel linear LED driver, which makes it easy to simplify rear lamp cluster designs.

Each of the LED driver’s channels can provide up to 250 mA and is set via two reference resistors connected to the driver IC’s REF1 and REF2 pins. The AL5873Q also has analog and master PWM dimming control functionality, supporting a maximum PWM frequency of 1 kHz.

The current on each channel is regulated to within a ±4% tolerance, allowing for better channel-channel matching in combination lamps. The AL5873Q also offers built-in protection features with a bidirectional (input/output) fault pin, which flags any faults and allows up to four devices to have their fault pins connected together.

Transient Voltage Suppressor Provides Protection for High-Speed Interfaces

STMicroelectronics'ESDCAN03-2BM3Y dual automotive-qualified low-capacitance transient voltage suppressor (TVS) is designed to protect CAN and CAN-FD interfaces. The new TVS meets the automotive industry’s need for miniaturized and high-performing protection devices for the increasing numbers of high-density ECUs (Electronic Control Units), including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), autonomous driving controllers, and automotive gateways.

Using this device, designers can save 75% or more of the PCB space needed by typical TVS in SOT23-3L and SOT323-3L packages. The ESDCAN03-2BM3Y offers transient protection with clamping voltage as low as 33 V (8/20µs at 1A) and 37 V (transmission-line pulse (TLP) at 16A). It’s also robust and can withstand 15 kV ESD contact discharge (ISO 10605), and, with a 3.3 A peak pulse rating, able to handle strong current surges.

Current-Compensated Choke Designed for High-Current Applications

SCHURTER has expanded its range of current-compensated chokes with a series for 1-phase high-current applications on printed circuit boards. The DKIV-1 series is designed for 1-phase applications at rated currents from 10 A to 50 A and requires only a tiny footprint on the PCB.

The chokes comply with IEC 60938, and with a rated voltage of 300 VAC or 450 VDC, they are ideal for almost any application. The DKIV-1 series is also certified for current ratings from 10 to 50 A, 300 VAC according to IEC and UL and 10 to 50 A, 250 VAC according to CSA. The chokes also have ENEC and cURus approvals and have been designed for a wide temperature range from -40°C to +100°C.

LED Driver Keeps Automotive Lighting Consistant

STMicroelectronics’ new ALED6000 single-chip automotive LED driver with integrated DC/DC converter is designed to keep lighting intensity consistent in vehicles, even when electrical conditions within the vehicle fluctuate.

The chip can drive a single string of LEDs at up to 3 A and has a wide input-voltage range of 4.5 V to 61 V. The ALED6000 features digital dimming and an Enable pin and Sync pin that ensures low noise in multi-device applications.

The chip’s output current is accurate to within 3.2% and is monitored with a sense resistor with a typical voltage drop of 250 mV. The quiescent current is exceptionally low, at just 2.4 mA in operation and 11 µA in shutdown, and features a VBIAS auxiliary-input pin and pulse-skipping operation at light load.
