RF Signal Analysis Spectrum Analyzers and Oscilloscopes

Oct. 2, 2024
Choosing the right instrument for your application

Nowadays, real-time oscilloscopes feature bandwidths that allow them to acquire microwave and even millimeterwave (mmWave) signals directly. While providing many new possibilities for RF engineers, the overlapping capabilities offered by spectrum and signal analyzers might cause confusion when choosing the right instrument for a specific application. Our focus here will therefore be the differences between both instruments and the use cases for which these instrument are ideally suited to meet the typical requirements of the measurements concerned.
