SOT Packages House Low-Power-Dissipating, High-Bandwidth Operational Amplifiers
Six new monolithic operational amplifiers help reduce the size, weight and cost of batteries used in portable electronics. These op amps are characterized by a GBP (Gain Bandwidth Product) of 1.0, 1.66 and 2.7 MHz; guaranteed specs at supply voltages of 1.8, 2.7, 3.0 and 5.0 Vdc; and typical supply currents of from 50 to 150 µA (depending on bandwidth). Representing members of the firm's existing family of op amps, the new CMV10xx devices employ a RRO (Rail-to-Rail Output) topology and their bandwidth, which is a measure of amplifier speed, can be traded off for power supply current consumption, allowing the best part to be selected for a range of different applications. Typical GBPs and supply current options: 1.0 MHz at 50 µA, 1.66 MHz at 85 µA and 2.7 MHz at 150 µA, depending on device selected for an application. The op amps come in 5-pin (CMV1010/20/30) and 6-pin SOT packages (CMV1016/26/36), with the latter's sixth pin used to enable a shutdown mode, reducing power requirements to less than 1 µA at 1.8V. The devices are well-suited for use in personal electronics, such as cell phones, pagers, PDAs and electronic toys. The 5-pin op amps cost about $0.40 each/10,000 and the 6-pin devices, $0.50.
