Delivering single-ended outputs, the company's second-generation, 15W stereo analog-input Class-D audio amplifiers promise to eliminate components, reducing both the size and cost of HDTVs and other consumer audio electronics. The TPA3121D2 and TPA3124D2 eliminate two LC output filters and operate off the existing 24V backlight rail, eliminating the need for a dedicated power feed. With efficiencies greater than 90%, the amplifiers also eliminate the need for a heat sink. In addition to single-ended stereo support, their outputs are configurable for BTL mode to handle 30W mono applications. The TPA3124D2 features a mute time of 30 ms and both devices integrate self-protection circuits including over voltage, under voltage, over temperature, and short circuit. Price for the 15W TPA3121D2 or TPA3124D2 is $1.45 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
