Claiming to boost overall system efficiency by 1% while reducing component count by 75%, the IR1166 SmartRectifier works independently from primary control and enables synchronous rectification. This allows the device to function in a variety of transformer switching modes and designs with capacitive output filters. When burst mode occurs on the primary side, the secondary side remains unaffected, complying with CEC 80Plus and 1W standby requirements. Using proprietary high voltage IC technology, the rectifier is compatible with all MOSFET gate types and directly interfaces to a range of 40V to 200V SR MOSFETs. Also available is the IRAC1166-100W 100W flyback converter reference design that operates in CrCM (Critical Conduction Mode). The reference design demonstrates the SmartRectifier features by resolving the output rectification function using a combination of one IR1166SPbF and two IRF7853 MOSFETs in parallel. Available now in RoHS-compliant SO-8 packages, price for the IR1166 is $0.70 each/10,000. INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER, El Segundo, CA. (310) 252-7726.
