The chip provides three dedicated outputs: one stereo headphone drive, one stereo loudspeaker output, and one mono line for a hands-free set. It can deliver up to 38 mW of continuous average power per channel into 16O headphone loads, or 450 mW into 8O loudspeaker loads while operating from a 3.3V supply. Via I2C selection, eight different operating modes, including a stereo loudspeaker option, and 32-step –34 dB to +12 dB digital volume control, are available. Other features include a standby current of 0.5 µA, a 10-nA shutdown current, and noise-reduction circuitry. Operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C. Available in a lead-free, 2.5 mm x 2.4 mm 18-bump flip-chip package, price is $1.10 each/1,000. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
