Analog's ADC Sets Efficiency Benchmark

April 5, 2006
Compared to similar 12-bit devices, the AD9230 a/d converter reports power reductions in the realm of 40% or more while occupying up to 20% less space. Available in three speed levels, 250, 210, and 170 Msamples/s, it operates from a single 1.8V

Compared to similar 12-bit devices, the AD9230 a/d converter reports power reductions in the realm of 40% or more while occupying up to 20% less space. Available in three speed levels, 250, 210, and 170 Msamples/s, it operates from a single 1.8V supply while dissipating 425 mW. In terms of performance, the device specs a SNR of 65.5 dB full scale and a SFDR of 82 dBc with a 70-MHz input. Features include a reference plus track-and-hold, two parallel LVDS outputs, and a DDR mode. Also available, the 10-bit AD9211 offers three speed grades: 250, 200, and 170 Msamples/s. Both devices come in lead-free, 8 mm x 8 mm LFCSPs. With production slated for September, prices for the AD9230/9211 range from $25 to $59 each depending on the device.
