The ADS1605 16-bit, delta-sigma A/D converter claims an industry record with a data rate of 5 Msamples/s. Coupling high-speed performance with a SNR of 88 dB, -99 dB THD, and a SFDR of 101 dB makes the device a suitable candidate for critical measurement applications. Operation is from a 5V analog supply and a 3V digital supply, while the digital I/O operates from a 2.7V to 5.25V supply to support a wide range of logic families. Power dissipation level is set by an external resistor and can be reduced from 315 mW to 570 mW when the device is operating at slower speeds. When not in use, the converter can be powered down via an I/O pin. Other features include an input bandwidth of 2.45 MHz (-3 dB) and a passband ripple of less than ±0.0025 dB at frequencies up to 2.2 MHz. Employing the company's PowerPAD technology, the ADS1605 comes in a 64-lead TQFP priced at $32.05 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924, ext. 4500.
