The TPA2016D2, a filter-free, stereo Class-D amplifier, delivers a 1.4W per channel output drive into an 8-Ohm load and provides programmable dynamic range compression (DRC) that automatically adjusts audio volume while protecting the speaker. DRC automatically boosts soft volumes and allows designers to compress the dynamic range of the audio to match the dynamic range of the speaker in order to thwart clipping and distortion. DRC also protects the speaker from damage at high power levels and frees up to 20% of the DSP's MIPS for other functions. Additionally, the DRC function is programmable via I2C control. Evaluation modules are available with software and a GUI to illustrate the flexibility of DRC. Available in a 2.2 mm x 2.2 mm, NanoFree WCSP, pricing is $1.60 each/1,000.
