Tailored for the bias adjustment and calibration markets, the X79000 series d/a converters integrate on-chip a single channel, 12-bit non-volatile converter, voltage reference with selectable gain and level shift, a configurable output buffer, and general-purpose EEPROM. They are said to achieve an effective resolution of 14 to 16 bits via built-in programmability and non-volatile storage while maintaining a 12-bit price tag. And values stored in non-volatile memory are restored during power up, enabling the devices to operate independently of a microcontroller. Other features include a 12-bit resolution with 0.5 LSB maximum DNL, an internal reference with digitally-selectable gain and level shift across the output span, monotonic operation, power-ready indicator, and an operating voltage of 5V ±10%. Options available include external reference pins, a weighted push-pot style up/down interface, feedback buffer output for gain amplification, and a 1.21V reference output. In 20-lead TSSOPs, prices for the series range from $2.65 to $2.75 each/1,000, respectively. XICOR INC., Milpitas, CA. (408) 546-3345.
