Next-generation wireless devices are continuing to shrink. For the components utilized in such devices, this means that they must decrease in size as well. The LMBTA068 series BlueDevice does just that. According to its developer, Murata Electronics, it is the smallest Bluetooth RF device to date for Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) applications. It measures a mere 8 × 6.5 × 1.6 mm. Clearly, engineers now have access to a Bluetooth product that can meet both size and functionality requirements.

The BlueDevice product is part of Murata Electronics' Bluetooth Module. It targets engineers who are developing CDMA handsets and PC cards with Bluetooth functionality. Designers using a CDMA chip set will now be able to easily add a Bluetooth module, thereby realizing the RF transceiver portion of Bluetooth. The result is a seamless interface to a Bluetooth baseband. It is built directly into a chip using a standard Bluetooth-for-CDMA interface protocol.

The Murata BlueDevice is now available. Samples will be supplied on request. The BlueDevice is priced at $100.
