Designed for use in Bluetooth and cellular phone applications, the RF2472 silicon germanium (SiGe) low-noise amplifier offers a noise figure of 1.5 dB and over 14 dB of gain in the 2.4 GHz ISM band. The chip is also characterized for operation at 1.9 GHz and is suited for use in PCS handsets. The SiGe IC draws 6 mA from a 3V supply and has a power-down mode that reduces current consumption to under 1 µA. Capable of operating from dc to 6 GHz, the part could also be applied to 900-MHz systems and GPS receivers. The RF2472 is offered in a small, SOT-5 package and is priced at $0.39 each/10,000. Components and fully assembled evaluation boards are also available.
