The latest member of the PowerWise portfolio, the LM48511 debuts as the industry’s first single-chip, 3W mono Class D audio amplifier with spread spectrum technology and an integrated boost converter. The spread spectrum technology lowers EMI emissions by more than 11 dB below the FCC limit. Driving an 8-Ω load at 3W continuous, the device specifies an efficiency of 80% at 5V, and independent regulator- and amplifier-shutdown controls optimize power savings by disabling the regulator when high output power is not required. Gain is set via external resistors. Other features include less than 1% THD+N, output short-circuit and thermal overload protection, and pop-and-click circuitry. Available in a 24-pin LLP, price is $1.75 each/1,000. NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., Santa Clara, CA. (800) 272-9959.
