An 18-bit dual-slope integrating analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is designed as an analog/digital two-chip set to minimize crosstalk and noise. The chip set is targeted at precision embedded display applications. The ALD500 analog chip functions as the dual-slope integrator. The optional ALD500R incorporates an on-chip precision voltage reference. As the digital chip, the ALD523D is a preprogrammed microprocessor designed to interface with a variety of LCD/VFD multiline alphanumeric display modules. The ALD523D features separate control inputs for power-down (sleep mode), chip select, and integration time select. The full-scale analog input range is ±2.00000 V dc with a linearity of 0.005%. Up to seven full digits can be displayed as an ADC measurement value. Standard packaging includes both PDIP and SOIC footprints. Available now, the ALD500/ALD523D chip set costs as low as $12.66 each in 1000-unit quantities.
