Described as precision data-acquisition microsystems in 6 mm x 6 mm QFN packages, the 24-bit MSC1201 and 16-bit MSC1202 mixed-signal devices integrate a delta-sigma a/d converter, an enhanced 8051 processor core, 4 or 8 KB of flash memory, 8-bit d/a converter, oscillator, voltage reference, and a variety of peripherals. The 8051 core executes instructions at speeds up to three times faster, and with lower power, than the standard 8051 core. The MSC1201’s a/d converter exhibits a noise figure of 75 nV, sampling rate of 1 ksamples/s, and a power consumption of 3 mW. The MSC1202’s a/d converter promises noise free performance at low data rates and can sample beyond 2 ksamples/s. Both devices include 256 bytes of SRAM, four I/O ports, a 32-bit accumulator/shifter, UART, two timer/counters, I2C interface, SPI interface, and a watchdog timer. Prices for the MSC1201Y2 (4 KB flash), MSC1201Y3 (8 KB flash), MSC1202Y2 (4 KB flash), and MSC1202Y3 (8 KB flash) are $5.60, $5.95, $4.60, and $4.95 each/1,000, respectively.
