Reporting a 25% increase in color brilliance when compared to fluorescent backlighting, the HDJD-JB01 illumination and color management system employs high-power Luxeon, red, green, and blue (RGB) LEDs from Lumileds Lighting. Essentially, the system provides white backlighting using the combination of RGB LEDs with feedback control. A typical system consists of an array of RGB LEDs, LED drivers, the company’s HDJD-S831-QT333 tri-color photo sensor, and an HDJD-J822-SCR00 controller. The controller interfaces directly to the photo sensor, processes the color and brightness information, and adjusts the light output from the LEDs until the desired color is set. The HDJD-J822-SCR00 integrates an a/d converter front-end, color-data processing logic core, and a 12-bit PWM output generator. The PWM signals connect directly to the LED drivers, controlling the on-time duration of the LEDs. The duration is continually adjusted in real-time to match the light output from the LED array to the specified color. System price is less than $35 each. AGILENT TECHNOLOGIES INC., Palo Alto, CA.
