Multichannel Audio Codecs Target Consumer And Automotive Markets

Four high-performance, multichannel audio codecs are available for use in home entertainment systems, DVD video and audio players, automotive audio systems, a/v receivers, and digital audio effects processors. Each provides 24-bit resolution on inputs and outputs with a sample rate of up to 96 kHz. With an on-chip 2.25-V reference, they operate on a single 5-V supply. The codecs' flexible serial interface enables a glueless connection to a variety of DSPs, S/PDIF receivers, and sample-rate converters. Their time-division multiplex (TDM) mode and daisy chaining allow up to 16 channels to be driven from one DSP serial port (SPORT). Each codec comes in a pin-compatible 52-lead MQFP package. While the AD1835 and AD1837 contain eight digital-to-analog converters (DACs), the AD1838 and AD1839 contain six DACs. Also, the AD1835 and AD1838 contain differential outputs while the AD1837 and AS1839 have single-ended outputs. All models contain two differential-input analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The AD1835 costs $9.04 per unit, and the AD1837 costs $8.81 per unit. The AD1838 and AD1839 cost $8.70 and $8.48, respectively. All pricing is for 1000-piece lots.
