Amplifier Drives SD Video From Portable Devices To TVs

New Product: MAX9519 analog video amplifier drives SD TV signals from handheld devices to TV sets.

The MAX9519 analog video amplifier from Maxim Integrated Products drives standard-definition (SD) video connections from any device to a TV. Targeting cell phones, cameras, and portable media players that require an output for video playback on a TV, it uses Maxim’s proprietary SmartSleep technology to drastically reduce power consumption in portable devices, according to the company. SmartSleep circuitry eliminates the need for external shutdown control, saving space, reducing pin count, and allowing the MAX9519 to be 30% smaller than competitive active-filter amplifiers 50% smaller than passive-filter solutions, Maxim says (see the figure).

Housed in a 1- by 1-mm, four-bump UCSP, the MAX9519 is the smallest video filter amplifier and offers the lowest pin count on the market, according to Maxim. The SmartSleep technology constantly monitors the video input for a valid video signal and the video output for the presence of a load. The MAX9519 only turns on and enters its full operating mode when it detects both video playback and a live connection to the TV. In shutdown mode, the SmartSleep circuitry disables the filter and output amplifier, reducing power consumption to 1 µA. The MAX9519’s integrated fifth-order filter features ±1-dB passband flatness up to 9 MHz and 48.5-dB attenuation at 27 MHz, ensuring signal integrity in ultra-compact designs.

The MAX9519 operates from 2.7 to 3.6 V and is fully specified from –40°C to 125°C. Pricing starts at $0.34 each in lots of 1000 and up.
